Faunist is a personal wildlife field journal that lets you browse species, log sightings, and track your observations over time. It is operated as a personal project, not a commercial service.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us at [email protected].

Faunist is built around a core principle: wildlife observation must never come at the cost of animal welfare. By using the app you agree to observe animals at a respectful distance, never disturb nesting or resting animals, and follow all applicable local wildlife protection laws. This commitment is not optional — it is a condition of use.
For threatened or sensitive species, we ask that you do not share exact locations publicly in ways that could enable disturbance or illegal collection.
Your sightings and profile data belong to you. You can export or delete your data at any time via Settings. By storing sightings on Faunist you grant us permission to store and display that data to operate the service. We do not share your personal sighting data with third parties.
Species information in Faunist — including names, images, facts, and conservation status — is sourced from publicly available databases including GBIF, iNaturalist, Wikimedia Commons, and the IUCN Red List. We make reasonable efforts to keep this data accurate, but cannot guarantee completeness or correctness. Species images from Wikimedia Commons are used under their respective Creative Commons licenses; attribution is displayed within the app where available.
We aim to keep Faunist available but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. As a personal project, the service may be updated, paused, or discontinued at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.
Faunist is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any loss of data, missed sightings, or other damages arising from use of the app. Your use of the service is at your own risk.
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of Faunist after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will update the date at the top of this page when changes are made.
